Here is a list of some of supermarket secrets that you should know. So the next time you plan to have a quick trip, you’ll end up just buying what you need.
Fruits,Vegetables and Mist
Why do you think you’ll find the fruit and vegetables section at the front of the store? It’s because it’s bright colors give up a positive effect that you’ll end up buying more. It promotes health and encourages you to buy them. Notice that it looks fresh because of the mist? The reality is, spraying water to fruits and vegetables can only make it rot faster.
Music makes the people come together (..and buy more together)
Do you find yourself wandering around the store to buy just a few items really quick, but then you hear your favorite love song so you linger much longer? Then after checking out you realize that you bought more items than what was on your list. It’s intentional that supermarkets play slow songs to create a relaxing mood, making the customers spend more time in the store and buy extra items.
Got Milk?
Do you wonder why you have to go all the way through the back store just to get milk? One reason is for you pass through all the aisles in the hope you might buy something you didnt come in for. But the main reason why milk section is located there it is because the truck unloads at the back of the store. It would be much easier to unload and replace products that needed to be refrigerated immediately.
Temptation Aisle
While waiting for your turn in the checkout line, you got bored, suddenly feel a bit hungry and end up buying a pack of candy to munch on. Another additional purchase that’s not in your main list. The reason why gums, candies and magazines are at the checkout line is because supermarket owners know that while waiting, you’ll stare at the items near the counter and might buy a thing or two.
There is something good at the end of the aisle
Goods at the end of the aisle are there for a reason. Companies are trying to promote their product and it doesn’t mean that if it’s in display there, it’s a good deal. Think before adding items to your cart that you presume saves you money.
The “In” Crowd
According to studies, shopping in the store that is crowded will make you buy more. This is due to the fact you are slowed down so your eyes wonder and you pick up more items than you need to.
All about the Carts
Studies shows that there’s an increase in percentage of the consumers who buy more because of the size of the cart that they increase gradually without the consumers noticing it. Another trivia is that supermarket carts are filthy and it is best to wipe the handles with antibacterial wipes before using it.
Do not look at eye level
You can’t decide what can of tomato sauce to buy so you immediately get the first item you see at the shelves but after paying for it you realize that it’s a bit expensive. Consumers often get what’s in front of them instead of looking for more cheaper items. Priciest items are placed at the eye level on the shelves for a purpose. Next time you look for an item you need, do not hesitate to look up or below the shelves because cheaper goods are often placed at the higher or lower part of the shelves.
Marked down items
You can ask the staff to give you a discount early if you see any items that you think will expire the next day. They will probably mark it down by tomorrow so they might give you a discount right at that moment.
Buy One Get One Free! Yey?
Everyone loves to think they got a bargain. But more often, “buy one get one” promos are not good value especially if it’s perishable goods. Even the “buy one and get your next item for 50% discount” promo is not a good deal as well if you dont end up using the items.
