The sun may have set on the Obamas’ time in the White House but this doesn’t mean we have to kiss goodbye to Michelle’s legendary wardrobe. We’re sure that when they’re back from their well-deserved holiday there’ll be plenty more where that came from, but in the meantime we thought it might be fun to revisit some of her best looks to date:
1. Her Wedding Day, 1992.
Of course we had to include Michelle Obama’s stunning off-the-shoulder wedding dress for her nuptials to Barack, which took place on 3rd October 1992. Everything about this beautiful picture is the epitome of a classic 90s bride.

2. Inauguration Ball, 2009.
Probably one of the most important days of both of their lives, the Inaugural Ball of 2009 signified the beginning of a beautiful relationship between Michelle Obama and designer Jason Wu.

3. Buckingham Palace Ball, 2011.
Ever the fan of a white dress, Michelle Obama summoned the help of the formidable Tom Ford to create this beautiful gown – with matching statement gloves – for her appearance at the 2011 Buckingham Palace Ball in London.

4. Inauguration Day, 2013.
There is no denying that red is most certainly Michelle’s colour, so we were all thrilled to see her walk out in this magnificent Thom Browne number on Barack Obama’s second Inauguration Day in 2013.

5. 36th Kennedy Center Honors, 2013.
When you look closely at the magnificent structure of this beautiful green gown, it displays some of the key ‘feminine yet commanding’ attributes of its world-renowned designer, Marchesa. This really was one to remember, just look at it.

6. Chinese State Dinner, 2015.
I mean, wow. There really is no other way to express the sheer and utter beauty – not to mention allure – of this black dress, worn by Michelle Obama for the hugely important Chinese State Dinner which took place in 2015. This really did signify a confidence in Michelle that had organically grown over time when it comes to her fashion. And who else could have designed such a striking vision, other than the inimitable Vera Wang?

7. The Queen’s 90th Birthday, 2016.
If there was one thing we’d learned about Michelle Obama’s fashion by 2016, it was that she’s not afraid to inject a bit of colour in to proceedings. And you know what? This is actually not dissimilar to the Queen of England (with her gloriously bright wardrobe) so this purple Oscar de la Renta shift dress was the perfect attire for Her Majesty’s 90th birthday.

8. Nordic State Dinner, 2016.
A personal favourite of mine, this beautifully regal cream gown was designed for Michelle by the highly-acclaimed designer Naeem Khan, who has grown with her on her journey as First Lady and has also gone on to dress the Duchess of Cambridge and Queen Nor of Jordan.

9. Democratic National Convention, 2016.
Getting in to the true Democratic spirit, Michelle chose a royal blue dress designed by Christian Siriano for her speech at their National Convention in 2016. This was actually very clever of her because, by looking so good in this blue dress, she was actually conveying a subliminal message of positivity about the Democratic party.

10. Last State Dinner, 2017.
Call me crazy, but I feel like everything has been leading up to this jaw-droppingly beautiful rose gold Atelier Versace gown, which in my opinion is ‘the dress to end all dresses’. You just have to look at the remarkable fit, not to mention the dazzling craftsmanship, to know that this is something very special. Michelle, we cannot wait to see what you wear in the future but for now, we cannot thank you enough for the most memorable wardrobe envy we’ve ever had.
