10 New Designers To Watch in 2017

We look forward to new designs and styles from our favorite fashion designers. Something different from previous designs we see yearly in catalogue and high fashion magazines. We are eyeing some young designers that can create fresh styles and can bring something new in the world of fashion. Just like these talented ones in this list of ten new designers that you should watch in 2017. Take a look!

Barragán

A 23-year-old Victor Barragán didn’t expect to take fashion designing seriously. It started as a joke at first and he considered it as a stupid dream. After one of his t-shirt, a crying Leonardo Di Caprio with MS-DOS folders became a huge seller. He made a move from Mexico to New York, from just his online shop into fashion week. From then he created Ytinifnininfinity and with more fans in Tumblr and strong following in Instagram, Barragán is here to stay.

Attico

Italian consultants, Giorgia Tordini and Gilda Ambrosio launched their own line Attico (means penthouse) in February 2016. They described Attico as sexy, ornate and luxurious. And it translates to the pieces they created for their first collection February last year during Milan Fashion Week. Their style is more of street style wear and known for pieces like robes and kimonos using fabrics like velvet and silk.

Maggie Marilyn

Maggie Hewitt is the young designer you should watch out for. Her designs are very feminine, with ruffles and unfinished edges in very neutral color using fabrics that is sustainable and ethical. The 23-year-old designer from New Zealand met Jo Knight, the former managing director or Richard Nicholl who brought her to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia. Net-a-Porter picked her on the spot after seeing her collections. She calls her brand, “livable luxury” with the price ranges from $100 to $700.

This Polish brand designed by Natalia Maczek is said to be the next Vetements. With it’s street fashion designs that caught the eyes of celebrities like Rihanna, Kylie Jenner and Cara Delevingne. Designs are mostly oversized, statement outwear, denims and graphic tees.

Y/Project

The brand that started as a menswear label is now branching into womenswear and unisex. Belgian designer Glenn Martens continues to explore his creativity and it shows in his recent collections. For his FW2017 collection, he shows more feminine and softer approach but was inspired by 1990’s rappers. He also launched Y/Project’s first footwear line and it was successful.

Chris Gelinas For Becken

Becken is a brand that was founded by Angela Beck with equestrian style, a lifestyle surrounded in a world of thoroughbred horses. And in the beginning of 2017, the brand announced that they hired a new creative director Chris Gelinas. He worked for fashion brands like Marc Jacobs, Balenciaga and Proenza Schouler and now for a lifestyle brand Becken. His collection for Becken are paddock jackets, cape-like sleeves, with quilting and corduroy trims made from fabrics made in Italy and UK.

Nina Tiari

She debuted her first collection at New York Fashion Week last February. Nina Tiari is a celebrity stylist turned designer. We don’t know much about this girl aside from her cool Instagram posts and her debut collection. Her ready-to-wear collection are combinations of office/businesswoman style but can be for night out and street style as well. She used eye-catching colors in a classic designs with a twist.

Jacquemus

Simon Porte Jacquemus is a self taught designer who started his business at the younger age of 19. He was a runner up at the LMVH Prize, earning €150,000 (about $168,800) that he used to expand his business. He is known for his designs that are minimalist and cost-saving clothes but still maintain high quality. His last collection showcased less deconstructed designs, feminine and elegant.

Dilara Findikoglu

She is a rule breaker, a rebel in the world of fashion who creates pieces that is really different from the usual designs of high end brands. Istanbul-born Dilara Findikoglu’s rebel acts can be seen in her designs. Bold statements, putting her cultural heritage and shows feminine strengths. She was also a part of the guerrilla fashion show #encoreCSM at the school courtyards when she and other students were not chosen to be part of the school’s annual pre-show. Her inspiration in creating her designs are power and inequality, cultural hybridity, and religion.

Molly Goddard

Molly Goddard is a 27-year Brit designer and a graduate of Central Saint Martin. She debuted in church hall showcasing her fluoro-tulle dresses. Last September, she also took home the ‘British Emerging Talent’ gong at Fashion Awards. Her signature style are princess prom-like dresses. Using techniques like crocheting, smocking and pleating. She hopes that she can encourage younger people to take up embroidery and other traditional techniques. Her aim is to make women feel comfortable, natural and free in all of her clothing.
