It’s one of life’s amazing, yet incredibly naughty and indulgent pleasures: dessert. Let’s be honest, there aren’t many of us who don’t love it. But, there are some people out there who have taken their love for all things sweet and turned it in to something altogether more extreme. I can’t lie and say a lot of these places aren’t in the USA (who certainly know how to create an amazing pudding) but if you want to find the best sugar-packed treats out there, here are our top 10 favourites…
1. New York Freak Shakes
Freak shakes are a phenomenon that is quickly taking over the planet. You will notice that the milkshake part is significantly small and the idea is actually more about how many sweet treats you can fit on top, whether it’s a cookie, a couple of donuts or even an entire slab of cake!

2. New York Cronut
If you are a lover of croissants, donuts, cream and anything that is deep fried, then you are about to fall in love with this New York speciality: ‘the cronut’. If you’re a person who cares about calorie intake then this probably isn’t the dessert for you but if you don’t give two hoots then prepare for your taste buds to be dazzled by this deep-fried masterpiece.

3. Peanut Butter Cup Stuffed Oreos – dipped in chocolate!
Two of the best things ever to come out of America (in my humble opinion), we didn’t think it could get much better than Oreos and Reese’s peanut butter cups. That was until we heard that you can get these two magical confectionaries combined in to one and then dipped in chocolate. Now that is a dream come true.

4. Reese’s Cake
Speaking of Reese’s, you can also purchase a Reese’s cake (in speciality bakeries across the US) which loads as much peanut butter and chocolate as is physically possible for a cake to withstand, all for our tasting pleasure.

5. Nitrogen Ice Cream
If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to instantly create your own ice cream using liquid nitrogen, then there are actually several restaurants around the world that will do this for you. We wouldn’t necessarily recommend trying it at home though. Seems like quite a lot of trouble to go to, if you ask me.

6. Cherpumple Pie
Have you ever had to make the agonising decision of which pie to choose when you’re in a restaurant? It can be heart-breaking if you make the wrong choice but luckily someone has solved this problem for us with the ‘Cherpumple Pie’, which combines – you guessed it – cherry, apple and pumpkin all together in three layers. Genius.

7. Doughnut S’mores
Based on the original American campfire treat ‘the s’more’, some very clever bakers decided to take the idea to the next level by taking the core ingredients – toasted marshmallows, chocolate sauce and graham crackers – and adding them to a cream-filled doughnut. I just don’t know what to say. Where are these people so I can thank them?

8. Churros Cupcakes
So, we all love cupcakes and we all love the amazing deep-fried treats, known as churros. Therefore, it seems like a no-brainer that someone thought to put them together. Why didn’t we think of this before?

9. Chocolate Covered Bacon
If you’re like me and find this an odd concept to get on board with, then it might be best to remind yourself that trying this could be one of the best decisions you’ll ever make – especially if you love salt and sweet together as a flavour. Either that or you’ll be sick instantly, but we doubt it.

10. Deep Fried Mars Bar
Finally, one that’s not from the USA (as much as we love you for your contribution, America). The deep-fried Mars bar is a signature Scottish dish, believe it or not, and can be found in pretty much any trading fish and chip shop. This is definitely one of those ‘don’t knock it until you’ve tried it’ moments, just be careful the inside of the Mars isn’t still molten when you bite in to it!
