10 Makeup Tips Every Girl Should Know

Beauty is just skin deep. You are beautiful just the way you are, make up or no make up. But it doesn’t hurt if you know a little trick here and there to make yourself more beautiful. Feeling good about yourself and knowing how to make maximize your look are important to many of us. Here are some make up tips from celebrity makeup artists that you should know about it.

1. Less is more

Uneven skin tone is a no no. As well as thick cakey makeup that can look so unnatural. But here’s our Chanel makeup artist, Kara Yoshimoto Bua’s tip for achieving a flawless complexion is ‘less is more’

“Remember, less is more, so apply formula to the t-zone, under the eyes, around the mouth (darker skin-tones usually have more discoloration around the mouth), under the jaw line, blending down the neck to any uneven skin tone areas, lightly leaving a wash of smooth texture and tone.”

2. Highlighter before Foundation

Troy Jensen‘s tip is to use highlighter before foundation. “I like the glow to look more natural, from within,” he says. “With full coverage foundation, it can tend to look a little dull or matte as the day progresses. Having the highlighter underneath gives that glow.”

3. Never over do your Bronzer

Bronze glow is okay and always on style no matter what season it is, but never overdo it. Carmindy advices to use no more than two shades darker than your skin tone. She says “Keep the bronze color away from the center of your face – too much bronzer on the center can make you look older.”

4. Blush then Foundation

Celebrity makeup artist and director of artistry for Ardency Inn, James Vincent tips for the perfect blush? He says “Add your favorite blush to the cheeks before you apply foundation for a glow that looks like it’s coming from beneath the skin. A bright, warm pink at the apple is perfect for any complexion.”

5. Perfect Cat-Eye Flick

To achieve that cat eye look we always want to look perfect, the global director of education and artistry for Stila – Sarah Lucero says “Apply mascara before liquid liner to create a guide for the perfect cat-eye flick.”

6. Nourishing Balm for Eyebrows

Here’s a tip for the ones who are obsessed with their eyebrows. “Apply a nourishing balm to your eyebrows before going to bed. This will guarantee extra strength and growth—thicker eyebrows in two weeks.” – tip from Terry de Gunzburg, the founder of By Terry and the one who invented YSL’s Touche Eclat.

7. Corn Starch as Face Primer

This one is a helpful makeup tip by Niki Metz, the director of artistry for Jouer, all you need is a basic kitchen ingredient – “corn starch” “If you’re extremely oily and don’t have face primer handy, just apply a little corn starch to your skin before your foundation.” Cool huh?

8. Glitters in the Center

Lancôme makeup artist Diane Kendal found a solution for those who love glitter but don’t want to overdo it. “It’s literally just in the center, within the brown eye shadow so it doesn’t take over the eye—you just get a hint of it when the eyes open.” Just keep it in the center of the eyes, with matte eyeshadow as the base.

9. Eyeliner for Lips

If you want to make your lips look fuller, Petra Strand, creator of Pixi by Petra shared this, “Use a flesh-toned eyeliner to outline the lips along the Cupid’s bow. This reduces the chance of feathering and makes lips appear fuller.”

10. Concealing the Dark Circles

Here are Bobbi Brown‘s tips for hiding dark circles in your eyes – “Prepare the under eye area with a hydrating, fast-absorbing eye cream, which will allow products to go on smoothly. Apply a corrector to cover the purple or green tones in the skin, then follow with a concealer that is one to two shades lighter than your foundation. Finally, set the undereye area with a pale yellow powder to help it last longer and prevent creasing.”
